About me

I’ve been a practicing massage therapist for just over 20 years. I trained locally, here in Calderdale.

My approach is very intuitive and I use a range of techniques from deep tissue strokes, where I use my forearms, leaning into the body to much lighter effleurage and energy healing. I like to listen to you, the client to find out what works best, and how you’d like to feel.

Warmth, strokes and nurturance are an essential part of our wellbeing. As social animals, human beings need touch. I was drawn to massage because as a young person I craved to simply be held and nurtured. Massage provided a safe place just to be.

My therapeutic background began with Person Centred Counselling. I began training in 1995 and practised as a volunteer counsellor for ‘Off the Record’, Bradford for several years. Through my passion for psychotherapeutic healing, it seemed to me that old pain and stored memories would often get locked in the body. This sparked my interest in body work in general. I completed my massage training in 1999 and continued with on going professional development in both bodywork and psychotherapy.

My clients come from all walks of life. Often clients simply want a relaxing massage or a structural release. I have many clients who see regular massage as an essential part of their weekly stress release. This can simply be because they love to have or massage or it can be because of a stressful working or family life or because of specific mental health issues such as schizophrenia, bi-polar conditions or clinical depression. Several clients have back issues such as kyphosis, lordosis, scoliosis and spinal fusion as well as nerve damage and entrapments due to injury or strokes. Others present issues such as ME and Chronic Fatigue.

Treatments

Massage treatments are tailored to your individual needs. Bodies respond differently. Some require deep massage to release knots and tension, others respond best to lighter touch. Generally though, I use an intuitive combination.

Structural Massage

In a structural massage, I massage deep into the connective tissue of specific muscle groups to release muscle tension, knots and stress. This aids in loosening muscle tissue, as it breaks down knots and releases toxins.

Nurturing Massage

A nurturing massage uses a lot of Hands on Healing techniques with slow, gentle sweeping techniques to leave the client feeling looked after and relaxed.

Connecting Massage

In a connecting massage, the emphasis is on bringing the client back to themselves so they feel grounded and refreshed. Here I use a combination of slow deep work and stretching techniques. A full body massage using a combination of techniques. It is relaxing and therapeutic.

Detox Massage

Detox massage uses a combination of quick fiery techniques and gentle shaking to pull the toxins from the body.

Combination Massage

A combination massage is exactly that, using my intuition and your spoken requirements to bring about the best possible outcome.

Essential & Base Oils

I often use a variety of essential oils and a base oil such as sweet almond oil or coconut oil.

Foot Health

As a Foot Health Practitioner, I provide all the routine procedures a podiatrist might offer excluding surgery and the prescription of drugs. The treatment is tailored to your needs but will include one or several of the following:

Toe nail trimming

Corn removal

Callus (hard skin) reduction

Thick nail reduction

Ingrown toe nails (conservative treatments)

Fungal infection treatment (nails and feet)

Diabetic foot care

Cracked heel treatment

Pampering foot massage

Referral service where necessary

Treatments cost £35. The initial consultation is included in the first session, free of charge and
the treatments usually last up to an hour although the first one is usually longer because it
includes the initial consultation and your feet may require more attention if they have not been
cared for, for some time. I am CRB/DBS checked, insured and use professional, high quality,
sterilised equipment to deliver a service which is friendly, reliable and personalised to your
needs.
